Did Mass Effect Change Everything?
Before Mass Effect would anyone even dream of making a possible hermaphrodite/futa a secondary main character? Liara T'soni happened and the world still calls her "best waifu" of sci-fi. She's in 3 games and a cameo voice over in Andromeda and even was in that Paragon Lost anime spin-off movie thing.

Are we living in a world where a futa isn't just in hentai and softcore hentai anime but possibly the lead roles of even English or US games and movies or shows?

I never wrote a story with a futa lead. It crossed my mind. But I didn't trust myself to be able to be upfront about it when faced with pressure from studios or executives or my parents and siblings. I always figured they say "of course a shut-in would write a space Lord of the Rings and make a perverted main character".

Now I don't kink shame, I have kink disagreements (unless it's pedo, rape, or getting off on wholesale murder). But I would understand if a person who wasn't gay didn't want to watch a show or series with hours of gay sex every season. And while I don't feel a work of art should appeal to EVERYONE. It shouldn't say "go fuck yourself" to anyone who doesn't like it either. I try to be fair.

As a heterosexual male do I know enough about gay, bi, and lesbians to write for one as a character? Would anyone believe that a hetero-male had the chops to set aside his hormones and write about a futa on futa relationship and stay on task (not let it degrade to just porn)? Is society--are we as a people--READY for a world where a mascot or the face of a series IS a bisexual futa?

These are the questions. Is this a new world with new possibilities? And if so, can these possibilities be tackled properly? Or is this the same old world and futa was never really something for a plot focus story? Was Liara a fluke, an anomaly, or the harbinger of the new norm.

tell me, in all seriousness. do you look back at the things you say and tell yourself "yeah, that's a normal thing to ask"

because i'm sat here, with the only question running through my mind: "WHAT THE FUCK IS HE SMOKING?"

Okay, the Asari are very likely to not have dicks. They probably have a birth canal, but it wouldn't be for mating like a human's, because they get pregnant by weird space magic. There's a whole lot of reading you could do on the Mass Effect lore and setting, even in-game, and I suggest looking through that first.

Also, I'm pretty sure calling anyone who does happen to have both a penis and vagina a "futa" is likely to make them very upset. I certainly don't tolerate "trap" or... the other words you'd find in porn. And it is a real thing that some people are born with mixed genitals/reproductive organs, it's called "intersex", and is distinct from animals hermaphroditism.

@QuietCoyote It's a mix of comedy and serious discussion. I was getting the feeling people didn't like me here so I'm trying to be funny while insightful. That way I don't come off as a holier than thou douchbag with sexual hang-ups.

@ScarletteKnight I was trying to use the phrase that was most common. I didn't think anyone hated the term. Also, I played all 3 games of ME and Andromeda and I'm 80% sure people kept saying Asari can shapeshift their body to have a penis is they chose. And that once they reach a certain age they were stuck with the shape they were taking. Liara even discussed I think in game 1.

It's not a matter of hate. "Futa(nari)" is too much of a manganime term, and one that can be applied to female herms as well as shemales. And then there's real life hermaphroditism....

Aw man. Should I just ask for the Mods to close this thread now? I didn't know about all this.
To me, a futa is just a woman with a vagina and a penis in anime. Be it a curse or spell or birth. No more no less.
The only drama about futa I've heard is people saying that anyone who likes them is closet gay or bisexual and that looking at them was a Poor Man's way of being in the closet while still fapping to penis. Not how I see it. I see it as just a way eliminate the chance of seeing men in hentai while also give a lesbian or bisexual woman a body party you can identify with to help your imagination fill in the blanks on what she's feeling during sweet sweet coitus. As I have no idea what a vagina feels like. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say it's like having a second anus but I doubt that's it. THAT SAID, I mean no harm to anyone here. I'm just talking about my thoughts as they come to me.

Hard to know where to start.
But I would understand if a person who wasn't gay didn't want to watch a show or series with hours of gay sex every season
Tbh, I'm not sure most queer people would watch a series with hours of gay sex every season either - it'd probably feel more like serialised porn than anything, depending on the porn to plot ratio. And the community has spent years trying to get the straights to accept that being queer is not sexual in nature/about sexual deviancy, so that'd be bad representation too.

As a heterosexual male do I know enough about gay, bi, and lesbians to write for one as a character? Would anyone believe that a hetero-male had the chops to set aside his hormones and write about a futa on futa relationship and stay on task (not let it degrade to just porn)?
I'm not saying this to be mean, but I don't think so? Honestly, from what you're writing, I get the impression you don't see women and LGBT+ people as actual people with feelings and personalities. So I advise you to do research by reading/listening to actual trans women talking about their experiences for starters, and Contrapoint's Youtube videos.

Is society--are we as a people--READY for a world where a mascot or the face of a series IS a bisexual futa?
Maybe? In the video game Nier, one of the main characters and fan favourite, Kaine, is a woman with a penis (iirc she also has a vagina but not sure). Granted the game is pretty niche but got back in the spotlight with Nier:Automata, so there's that.
(although there ave been heated debates about the oversexualisation of the character)

As I have no idea what a vagina feels like. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say it's like having a second anus but I doubt that's it
No, just- no.
Sorry, the picture this sentence evoked in my mind nearly made me throw up in my mouth.
I don't know if you're talking about what a vagina feels like to the touch or what it feels like to have one but either way that's not it. If you actually want to know what having a vagina feels like, you're better off asking someone who actually has one - preferably on forums and not irl.

I'm just talking about my thoughts as they come to me
I feel like that's part of the problem. Anything that's posted on the internet is written in ink - you can't just erase it from people's mind after they've seen it.
That's why it's important to really think before posting.
That also may be why you felt forumites disliking you - we're used to people asking direcly what they want to know, or for feedback, or launch discussion threads because they want to exchange ideas with other people. Not using the forums to sort out their own thoughts.

Let's be honest. Arguably, shows on Cinemax or HBO like Westworld and GoT are right there on the edge between TV Show and porn. And people eat that up. Let's be real and call a spade a spade. Even South Park mocked people addicted to Law and Order style shows and called them murder porn.

I have always seen EVERYONE as people. Don't misunderstand me.

Nier did try it. But it was swept under the table in the regions outside of JPN. Plus I suspect the creator behind Nier and Nier Auto is a hack. He spins a wonderful lie and I think people give him more credit than he's due. Every game is like "war is hell, everyone's wrong, sit on a boy's chest and strangle him, women with harems, kill my sister". Like, WTF, he acts like he's being profound, but it's shock value. That's my opinion. So if yall are his fans, let's agree to disagree. I doubt he's a mind to trust anymore than I am at doing none straight relationships justice.

The part I said about a vagina is said from the point of view of a virgin. Again, I have no idea. I never ask my sister or mother. Nor will I ever. I haven't had a girlfriend since I was 18. So AGAIN, no idea. I'm just guessing. It's an opening around your lower body. *Shrug* I honesty don't know.

This happens often. I'm just trying to have a friendly conversation and buddy up to yall and it's misunderstood. It happened with my old roommates and it happens with my siblings when I was forced to move back into my parents house. After 3 years away from them, they acted like it was a chore to even hear me hum while washing dishes or discuss an anime. Why can't people just shoot the shit and talk about stuff. I made an Avengers thread and no one gave any fucks at all. So I thought, okay, "maybe they think it's pretentious to discuss non-hentai stuff on a forum for hentai games". So I went back to hentai. Even down to using the word "futa". Have I become so old (at 33 going on 34) that I can't even talk to people on the net (the home of the world darkest and most twisted thoughts) without being off-putting?

Being a virgin doesn't exempt you from learning biology or asking anyone other than your sister or mother.

I made an Avengers thread and now one gave any fucks at all.
There are film/manga/music threads no one uses. And that includes you, not using the search bar so as to keep the talk in a single place :p

Have I become so old (at 33 going on 34) that I can't even talk to people on the net (the home of the world darkest and most twisted thoughts) without being off-putting?
Perhaps you could start by not saying "I'm x years old, I'm a virgin!" on almost every single post. On the internet, nobody knows you're a dog, and there's a good chance nobody cares or wants to know either.

I went to Family Life class and like everyone else and it all went in one ear and out the other. Know what stuck? The sinking humiliation of the teasing in the class. I'm not asking anyone about body parts. Words don't do 'touch and feel' description justice. They could say anything.

Yeah, but I wanted to JUST talk about Avengers. And if I'm being honest, I kinda wanted to make it THE Avengers thread when the movie drops.

I've heard this before. It's strange to me. Why don't people want to get to know people on the net? Even when they don't mind telling about themselves. I say I'm a 33 yr old virgin to be honest about it. I don't have anything to hide. And I would think yall would respect me more for not pretending to be in the know, only to find out later after a few Q and As that I don't know nothing beyond kissing. Aren't we all friends? Aren't we all on the same site for the same reason? Aren't we all united under the banner of a often misunderstood form of entertainment? Wouldn't in be BETTER to be friends instead of grossed out by an eccentric black guy who is an open book? Unless yall see me as some cautionary tale of something.

I'm just some dude. I clean movie theaters. I play RPGs. I read Sherlock Holmes. I draw martial arts anime fight scenes. I like telekinesis because of Mewtwo and the movie Dark City. How is getting to know me annoying?

I love Nier! Although I hate that America only got "father Nier" because "brother Nier" seems way better. I really liked Kainé's story, and Laura Bailey's performance, and really digging into the material outside the game is cool(y'know, except that weird necrophilia bit, but whatever).

And the incest angles that happens in the connected games like Drag-On Dragoon.

Yeah, or the pedophilia or child prostitution. It's bad, but realistic to me though, it fits into the world, and the characters move on in spite of that. Though DOD5 was less great about that with the Apostles(?), boiling them down to a single sexual trait.

I didn't even know about the child prostitution. Was that that latest Drag-On Dragoon with the flower in the eye and the barely explained harem and "I wanna kill my sisters" story? I'm telling you the Nier guy, Taro-something, is a hack.

I mean look as Nier Auto

SPOILER ALERT

Lots of people die and it's senseless. It happens over and over and everyone tells me he's making some big statement. But it all boils down to a cycle of violence with no real end and people leave the backdoor to their base open to allow the villains in. Because plant alien monsters want their toy robots to hump in the desert while humanity burns. SMH WTF is his problem.

Yeah, but Westworld and GoT
  1. mostly center around straight and cis characters and straight relationships/romances/sex scenes, like most tv shows do
  2. aren't the be all and end all of tv shows. They cater to a specific audience, and it's probably not the same audience as Friends, or Supergirl, or Charmed, etc
I say I'm a 33 yr old virgin to be honest about it. I don't have anything to hide. And I would think yall would respect me more for not pretending to be in the know
Being a virgin is no excuse for being ignorant, expecially with the sum total of human knowledge at your fingertips (ie Google). I was a virgin once, and I still knew how penises and vaginas work way before doing the do.

@Kokayi005 I don't agree with you about Yoko Taro. There are a lot of videos on Youtube about the philosophy of Nier/Nier:Automata. ValkyrieAurora and Mr Clemps both did videos explaining and analysing Yoko Taro's work. They're good.
Also, the way you put it
But it all boils down to a cycle of violence with no real end and people leave the backdoor to their base open to allow the villains in. Because plant alien monsters want their toy robots to hump in the desert while humanity burns.
is really not accurate to the game.
For one the aliens have been dead for centuries. the robots emulate human behaviors, including sex, because they see us as gods and want to become as gods
I feel like you haven't played the game beyond the 1st playthrough?

What I mean when I say that you don't seem to see lgbt+ people as people is that you seem to think that being queer is all about sex? And sex is a part of it, sure, but a small one, and certainly not all of it?
There's also a big difference between stories about queer written by queer people, and those written by cis straight people: a queer person knows what being queer is like, they're living it; a cis straight person has to adopt a mindset and an approach to their identity and relationships that is fundamentally different to what they're used to.
And this is how we get tropes like "the token gay of the straight group", which is based on the assumption that of course queer people want to be a part of straight social circles, when irl, most queer people I know prefer forming their own social circles of mostly queer people

I'm pretty sure people aren't comfortable with knowing too much about other people on the internet bc a lot of us grew up during the "don't talk to strangers on the internet it's dangerous you don't know who's really behind the screen" campaigns.
Also, I personnally feel that info like age and stuff like that is more something you'd talk about in pms, with people you're already internet friends with? Or on a need-to-know basis, like if someone is making a poll? But maybe that's just me

I love Nier! Although I hate that America only got "father Nier" because "brother Nier" seems way better. I really liked Kainé's story, and Laura Bailey's performance, and really digging into the material outside the game is cool(y'know, except that weird necrophilia bit, but whatever).
Me too! And it's a shame, esp since it seems Brother Nier's story is the most canonical one
(bc of the whole child prostitution backstory - it fits better with the whole theme of an unjust, cruel world corrupting innocence in Yoko Taro's works)

We're just going in circles. I don't think we're ever gonna see eye to eye. Especially about the Nier guy.
Bashful as I am there no way I would sit in my room and study body part. I keep telling yall what kind of life I've had. Meet me half way. Even when I play the games here, I do it when no one is around.
I'm just gonna say sorry for insulting anyone, albeit accidently. I was trying to me a discussion funny so it would be fun. That way there wouldn't a ton of "too long didn't read" lines.

If no one has anything else to say, or scold me for my mistake, can we close this thread?
