Some time in the past
"Uggg, come on already," exasperated Miko. "When is the boat gonna be ready?" "Am I the only one that doesn't want us to leave the homeland?" snipped Mai. "No, but" Suddenly, Miko's head swiveled. "Hey, Hey, Mai, Mai, there is a fortune teller over there. Let's go!" "A fortune teller, here? At the docks? Sis, there is no way a fortune teller would ever descend onto the dock. Whoever is there is nothing more than a common charlatan." "But I wanna go." Miko pulled on Mai's sleeve trying to drag her over. "It's not like the boat is going anywhere." "Fiiiine, have it your way Miko."
"Hey, Hey, Lady, can you tell me my fortune?" "Of course, my dear," the fortune teller intoned smiling behind her veil, "I need but a trifle to get started." Mai sighed and handed the lady a few copper. "Very good, my dears. What do you wish to know about your futures?" Miko swooned, "I wanna know who I marry in the future." Smiling the lady took out a deck of cards and began to shuffle them. Mai interrupted, "Aren't you going to ask our signs?" "Oh child, this is a Belharan technique, now l want you to select one of these cards."
Miko quickly grabbed a card and flipped it over. "Ohhh, now isn't this interesting. Your lover will be a foreigner, across the seas and know to Keros." Miko beamed, "What will he look like?" "Let me see, Huh? This is never happened before. It seems I can't get a read on their appearance. Interesting. Now let's see how things are in the hearth." The lady flipped over a card and then continued to flip card after card in an increasingly worried manner. "Well, let's just say that you will have a very, very busy home to tend to."
"Do my sister next. What is her husband to be?" Before Mai could object the lady began again. "Select a card. Good. My My, isn't this fascinating. It appears that your lover will the same as your sister's. Now unto the hearth." The lady flipped card after card this time in bemusement. "Let's just say that your will find no slack in your work either."
Miko and Mai walked back towards their boat. "I told you she was a charlatan. We should report her." Miko looked downcast, "But don't you wanna it be true." "Why is that, Miko?" "Because if it is true, then we will be together forever." Mai faintly smiled.
