So I finished the main quest in the pirate base. but I haven't taken the sidewinder yet does taking it and freeing the slaves actually do anything?

At the moment, freeing the slaves only causes a few more encounters in that level of Zheng Shi, most notably the Star Vipers. Taking the Sidewinder adds Olympia to your crew and also initiates a space battle the next three times you visit ZS. You also lose your current ship forever when you take the Sidewinder, so be careful.

Can it be, that there whas a change because if not then I seem to step on a bug. Because I can recruit Ardia on the first time meeting her without even freed any slave.
