I was recently reminded of this, and it's something that many of you will be familiar with if you browse adult games or the submissions even if you haven't heard it said explicitly.

That is, "90% of everything is crap."

If you take a random grab bag of the things made by the public, with no filters or quality control, you should expect 90% of it to be of low quality. So don't feel like it's in any way unusual if it seems like most of the stuff shared on the forums is bad.

Technically it's Sturgeon's Revelation. His first actual law was "nothing is always absolutely so".

But that's beside the point.

When Sturgeon was talking about 90% of everything being crap, he was right. Especially on the internet. Most of the time, what we see on the internet is the unfiltered crap that people put out without really thinking about it. Take this forum for example. You could easily say that 90% of the ideas that come from new members are complete and utter shite. And you would be right. Because none of them take the chance to stop and think for 2 minutes.

Its not 100 ideas come in and 90 of them are crap. Its one idea comes in and you could clear 90% of the crap and you might have a good idea left over.

Carl's backyard
Sturgeon was almost certainly a Discordian, then. That first law is basically a summary of a third of the Principia.
