Hey, does anyone know if when you choose "go home" or "dont follow" if you can do the quest later or are you permanently locked out of it?

Not really, some things are just a one-and-done time only with no ways to go back.
They're literally going off on their mission right there and then. It's your choice whether or not to go with them, and that decision comes with consequences. You're facing one of those consequences now.

You can always cheat and set the event flag to false with the free save editor available on the forum.
