I decided to go with a new game on tits and finally got around to investigating Tessa and when she reveals her profession it made me wonder on a scale of one to ten how strong is Steele storywise in a fight? I recall that Dane mentions he doesn't want to mess with you again after you beat him on Mhen'ga and he later on takes a lot of warrior girls saying they should of brought a gun. (still cracks me up.) I made it to the point of fighting a battlesuit which is a pain in the ass if you don't use the right weapon but it does make me wonder.

A decently-built-and-equipped Steele can take on most in-game threats by themself. A min-maxed Steele is nigh unbeatable. The only combat encounters I know of that are particularly difficult to defeat with physical damage are Amara Faell, Overseer Maike and the Frostwyrm, and only the latter is immune to lust damage (fortunately, it's also the easiest to beat of the three) (I'm not counting Doctor Lash, since he's not supposed to be beatable yet). That said, outside of combat, Steele seems to be particularly vulnerable to being ambushed by the likes of Tessa, the space yakuza Host Shukuchi and (if Steele has low Reflexes) Lorelei/Minuet, putting Steele into a position where they could easily be killed if their assailant wishes to.

To give you an example of the power level your Steele CAN reach, Dr. Lash isn't intended to be beatable by a normal character, yet people have beaten him to death with a rock.
If you're curious about how powerful your Steele is intended to be canonically, though, I'd estimate probably about Mandalorian level in the Star Wars universe based on the kinds of responses people have to your presence. You rely mostly on specialized training and gear in combat, at higher levels, people see you and are impressed, especially after you prove your worth in some way, but you're far from invincible and plenty of characters don't even see you as a threat because there's only one of you.

that's kinda why I mentioned storywise since as players we tend to find breaks in everything and do weird things because we can. (like beat dark souls with just a ladle) Thank you for the replies, from what I got from the answers is storywise really strong but still vulnerable to being blindsighted

Bimboleum Defense System (from Doctor Badger) + Prototype Pirate Shield (from Urbolg) [or just 200 points shield hp through any means] is enough to beat Doctor Lash if you can survive his attacks long enough for him to break your shield without killing you, last I checked.
Of course, if you have the Prototype Pirate Shield without save editing, you're probably at least level 6 or 7 already.

To be fair, BDS and 200+ points of shield beats pretty much everything that doesn't bypass the shield to damage Captain Steele's body directly and isn't immune to lust damage.
