Plans for psychic powers?

So psychic abilities are a thing in the TiTs universe, and there's been hints at times that players can acquire them. To my knowledge there's nothing in the game at moment.
Are there any official plans to add a psychic class or a way to add psychic abilities to the existing classes?

I imagine if it was planned to add psychic powers it would probably be as you said a separate class, something you obtain that would be flavor text in certain lusty situations, or an ability you obtain that would involve heavy downsides as well as upsides for balancing purposes.

From what I remember, a Psionic class is planned, but due to it's abilities and powers, its aimed for mid-to-late game. Considering that ten probe planets are planned, we haven't reached mid-game and its going to be a while. Whether there'll be something to help the Mercenary/Smuggler/Tech Steeles to keep up remains to be seen.

So it sounds like we might be getting sub classes or separate classes altogether in the future then? I guess the bionics are being saved for that too maybe for a cyborg class or something.

I believe there won't be player psionics, for various reasons. Additional classes becoming increasingly difficult to add after-the-fact for all times they are mentioned and balancing done.

Besides, I don't believe they were promised in the pledge.

That said, from what I remember and gathered over the years, Zaalt's broken psi-amp is meant to play a part in Steele later gaining psionic abilities.

Now, psionics will probably play a part once Captain Steele reaches tainted space, hence the comment about the three base classes getting something to help them catch up. However, adding a new class wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility, but you would probably have to make a new character. A psionic class would probably kind of an evolving power type of class, very weak at the beginning, before coming ungodly in power by endgame. Although by that stage, I imagine Mercenary Steeles would have orbital lance strikes, Smuggler Steeles will have strafing runs (or Steele shot first) and Tech Steeles will probably have a mech stomping everything.

Wait.
I thought all of it was "tainted space," what with all the perversion.
You're saying it's an actual region of space in the game?

Yes, where nanomachines have gone rogue and randomly transform living creatures.

Instead of building an entire new class, wouldn't it be easier to simply add psychic abilities as a third option for perks alongside melee and range?

Is that from a codex entry?
No, it's long been planned. There's an area of space infested with nanomachines that induce random mutations and it's called Tainted Space, presumably due to the damage the nanomachines do to the DNA of explorers who traverse the region.

Oh God, I never knew about that. I hope that isn't too difficult to avoid, or I'm going to have to consider the ending of the game to be just before whatever point it is that this crops up, or possibly the version if it gets retroactively added to other areas, or is a random event whenever we go between planets. I really can't stand forced transformation, especially in this game where getting my character to retain a certain look already requires a lot of save-scumming, or the use of a third-party save editor...

The PC will never be subject to unavoidable forced transformations.
Presumably this is because of and the purpose of the Steele's microsurgeons, giving them immunity to Tainted Space.

Always liked the idea of a place you have to escape before your body changes too much.

Yes, but that would lead to some balance fuckery where everyone would get the powers just for minmax sake.

Are you envisioning it as Melee/Ranged/Psychic and you can only choose 1 on each tier? Are the powers the same for each class? If not they'd be three different sets, and a separate class would be 3 different sets (the choice between 2/level and the autoperk).

Depends on how it's implemented, and how good the powers are. People already 'minmax' by taking the best perks. Which are best would potentially change, but that's about it. Granted, there are certain levels I don't really care about either option currently available. 20% more damage! (Applied only to base weapon.)

I also recall reading something about the possibility of an existing Steele getting psionic powers, but it would involve a 'brain slug or something and probably overwrite your current class'. Paraphrasing.

My concerns are:
How are Psi-Amps going to work? Do they take your accessory slot? Are they mandatory if you want to use your powers? If you want Zaalt's you have to do his distress call after you've done Kara's 2nd quest, but you can receive it as soon as you hit level 6.
The longer the devs go without adding Psionics, the fewer 'world interactions' the class will have. Unless they go back and add some.

Psi powers have been stated to be mostly if not completely lust based, there should be little min-maxing going on as we already can and do reach max lust damage with tease alone.
