Sometimes, things don't pan out the way you want them to. Sometimes, you change your mind a ways in and it's too late to turn back.

I've been there, and I'm sure you have too. Which is why I wanna pitch an idea for ways to change your class post character creation.

But for starters, I have a question for the devs, that being if I worked on this project, which I am genuinely interested in taking a serious swing at, would it even be possible to implement this feature? Because I'm not going to get arthritis typing all this up if it turns out it's too complicated to even implement.

That said, I have two different ideas on what this could be.

For starters, trainer style characters found on Tavros who, for a fee, will let you swap class. Also has the potential for interesting sexytimes, as well as helping to better flesh out the Merchant deck of Tavros station. Though I'll have to workshop whether or not you can just train with them to farm xp or stats, and if not why not, which is the biggest bottleneck to this option.

Second is to simply have Flahne let you do it as an additional option to changing your name and email address. This one is a bit of a cop out and pretty boring but would by far be the easiest to implement since it's not attached to whole other characters.

It probably would be technically possible. It can be fairly easily done with Save-Editing.

1. Remove all Class Perks. (You can already refund your choices via Level Up menu if Cheats are enabled.)
2. Change Class. ("characterClass")

Kineticist would be kind of weird, from a lore standpoint. You need an inborn talent and an implanted Psi-Amp. There are also a few places where a history comes up. Smuggler references events prior to the start of the game at least twice.

The real question is whether this is something they'd want to introduce.

Yeah, your class is also your work history - changing it would require the ability to manipulate the past, which is... not a thing in TiTS. (Excluding retcons, of course, but that's out-of-universe; this'd need to be in-universe.)
well... maybe some kind of reality warp mumbo jumbo then? like the event whorizon? or some bullshit where its framed as a slightly different alternative dimension?

idk im just spitballing.....

If the game could track your starting class separately the backstory issue could be avoided

Technically, it does. "occupation" and "characterClass" are separate. You'd probably have to go through the game and find all the "characterClass" checks and change them when appropriate.
