About the game
In The Rescue of Mermaids, you play as Garry, a human-looking creature who possesses a curse that turns him into octopus, to keep himself in human form he needs to be aroused, and for that he has a small harem with 3 mermaids who are his companions of adventures and love.

One day Garry was relaxing when a horrifying creature appeared and captured all the mermaids at once, leaving Garry alone. Now he must seek and release his companions if he wishes to freely enjoy the human form again.

Sidescrollers and pixel art don't really appeal to me personally so I likely won't play it. However, it's clear you put a fair amount of effort into this and looks well done so far. I won't personally play it but I encourage you to continue, it has potential and a fair amount of folks don't share my pickiness for games so if you stick to it and deliver you can go far.

Pixel work is amazing. I too don't play sidescrollers / platformers, but definitely some of the best work i have seen offered.

I think you forgot to include the transformation fetish in your list. That's a pretty big one around this forum. Also, interested in the sex toy transformation that you posted on the Patreon, that a pretty rare one.

EDIT: We don't see too many games with high quality spritework, so it's nice when those come along to bring some variety. There's a certain charm about them that you don't get in large scale CGs.

OK, having actually played the game now, I can easily say: it's too hard, to the point of being frustrating rather than fun. The levels are fine, but that first boss? Simply bullshit. Her bullets move too fast for your slow-moving and momentum-constrained floaty ass to effectively "dodge" them, the only way I've found to survive is to hide behind one of the protrusions in the ceiling (and even that doesn't always work) and the rockfall sometimes has simply NO gaps in it that you can move between at all, making it an almost unavoidable death. Plus unless I'm missing something (which is quite possible as the game lacks any instructions beyond the single context-deficient image of the keys you use to control yourself) you have the single WORST form of attack I've ever seen in a video game (and I've played and beaten Spanky's Quest). Having to constantly slip underneath the shark woman for the 2-3 seconds you can get in between her attacks so you can bubble ink up at her is not fun at all, especially if you accidentally float a bit too high and touch her (another instant death). Oh, and she has too much HP. Unless there's an undisclosed way to actually project your ink FORWARDS rather than letting it bubble up above you, I don't think I can even be bothered trying to beat her again.

And don't tell me to "git gud" either. This isn't fucking Dark Souls. This is a pixel-art porn game, with all the porn other than the mermaid titties at the start gated behind a BRUTALLY unfair boss, with a lot of the difficulty being down to floaty controls and slow character movement. Looking at the comments in your patreon, I can see this is the prevailing opinion there too. I like the design of the game in general, but minor gameplay balance issues make it unbearable.

i see what ppl complained about it being difficult, but to state "this isnt dark souls to be this hard" is dumb as if dark souls is the hardest thing in the world...
anyway... instantly i felt like i was playing a slowmotion undewater version of super meat boy or something like, which to me is nice, since i like challenges like those.
but ppl are playing for the porn side/reward of the game unfortunately, so they dont care, they want/need it easy.

I discussed it elsewhere, but the problem isn't so much the difficulty, it's how quickly the game gets difficult. There isn't time for the player to get use to gameplay that simply doesn't exist elsewhere, so you're probably learning this navigation and attack system from scratch. Having the game be really hard is fine, but it shouldn't beat you out of the gate with it and be incredibly unforgiving with a control system that players have probably never used before. It's hard to practise and learn the system when that first boss was the first time you used your attack at all. Players are more likely to just quit in frustration.

Thx, as soon as I launch this game of mermaids, I must make a reformulation in my blog to be able to post the updates of the other projects, like the Sword of Fireheart :3

True, I solved this by leaving the first 3 levels longer and with more obstacles in progress, so that the player also gets a certain skill with the controls, otherwise the first boss is easier now.
