This is more about how the mechanics are coded. The wiki says that if you have a minesweeper you avoid the mines altogether. Does that mean the code checks for the minesweeper before the roll to determine you find a mine, or do you find the mine then the code checks to see if you have the sweeper? Also if they are lust inducing, why do they damage your health?

If you have the minesweeper equipped, you'll never trigger a mine. Game will roll, and then if you're "unlucky" and would trigger a mine, the game will then check to see if you have the minesweeper. If you do, it'll return false and you won't trigger the mine at all.

Also if you have the Hoverboard, you'll always roll higher than the mine chance. As for health, well, the descriptions explains it. The explosive shockwave from the mine knocks the wind out of you, thus lowering your health, in addition to increasing lust.

Even if you do trigger a mine, reflexes can help you avoid damage.
