Maximizing Evasion

I thought I’d run this by the community here and see if anyone has any comments on further/better optimization. I’m trying out creating a Smuggler, and thus trying to get my Evasion percentage as high as possible. Here’s what I’m going with now:

Melee Weapon: Hardlight Dagger
Ranged Weapon: NaN Deconstructor
Armor: Jumper Jumpsuit
Shield: Jumper Shield
Accessory: Light Jetpack
Perks: Lucky Breaks, Agility, Improved Agility

That’s good for 67%. Now some variations:
  • Hardlight Dagger + Zil Champion’s Bow = 76%
  • Custom Shock Gear + Zil Champions’ Bow = 72%

The best build I can see now (with the bow) is not exactly good for damage output, however, so I’ve stuck with the NaN Deconstructor for now; Corrosive is a damage type that apparently few creatures or shields protect against.

Incidentally, I’ve noticed that Agility amplifies Evasion item penalties as well, which is just crack-headed. I’ve never seen a game that does that.

Anyhow, can anyone suggest any further improvements?

EDIT ON 11/24/2023:

My current best Evasion build:

Melee Weapon: Rouser (Evasion +10)
Ranged Weapon: Royal Shard Bow (Evasion +6)
Armor: Jumper Spacesuit (Evasion +20)
Shield: Bio-Enhancement Shield or Jumper Shield (Evasion +4)
Accessory: Light Jetpack (Evasion +10)
TOTAL: Evasion 50
NOTES: The Royal Shard Bow is fairly lame weapon, so I recommend the Supercharged Laser Pistol instead for only a -4 loss in Evasion.

Please report this if true. That seems really really wrong. This would explain my math going crazy when loading up on negative Evasion items.

I can prove it!

Load the above build. Now swap in the Lash Cannon, which has a -10 evasion penalty. Evasion now drops down to 52%. That's (-10 * 1.5) = 15%.

You *really* ought to post this in the bug report forums then.

I'm only today realizing that it *is* a bug. I assumed it was on purpose.

EDIT: Ok, this is now posted in the Bug Reports forum.
Even if it was intended, getting confirmation would be nice.

Regarding the build, I actually created my own. My build uses the Royal Shard Bow, which destroys anything with an exploitable libido. If that doesn't work, I use the Hirudo Devourer. It isn't optimal but unfortunately the options for evasion ranged guns are kinda slim. The secure MP would be a good pick if it did more damage, but as it is it would be better to go for pure crit instead. Maybe the Handcannon or the Vanquisher would be good for armor and health and Khan's Arc Caster for shields and robots.

A question about Smugglers: do guns with higher rates of fire work better with Aimed Shot?
Good question. I'll experiment and find out. This will be my first Smuggler character, as I've been going with Tech Specialist so far (I am a programmer IRL, so it seemed an obvious choice).

Is the Royal Shard Bow really that good? Its Evasion is good, and other specs seemed adequate, but I can find higher Accuracy and Crit Bonus numbers on other weapons, so I'd given it a pass.

It's pretty neat. It can hit for between 8-15 lust per hit on stronger enemies like the Jumpers and the Slavebreakers, and between 20-30 on weaker enemies. It is really good against enemies on all planets except for Uveto, where the Korgonnes and Milodans have drug resistance. And of course, it is useless against non-organics and Lash.

Do higher Tease skill scores raise the Lust damage? If so, I can just crank those up to 100 with TiTSEd and give it a shot.

AFAIK lust damage from weapons do not derive additional damage from your tease score. However, it does benefit from special attacks that give you additional attack chances. Rapid fire from a lust weapon can 1 hit ko a lot of stuff.

Ok, they say it should be fixed by next release. Then I can go back to equipping the Lash Cannon if I want and have it be treated as a 0 Evasion item for purposes of the Agility perk.
