Is The Seer a reference to Rose Lalonde?

I believe the character of The Seer is a reference to the Homestuck character Rose Lalonde, for a number of reasons. I’ve decided to write this out to say why and maybe give some insight into it. Of course, this isn’t to say they are the same: not only is Rose a character with her own drives and such, she’s also thirteen, which is why I’m not going to get into anything sexual since that’s gross and I’d be rightly banned. Also, spoilers for Homestuck are abound, so if you somehow are a) interested in it and b) haven’t already read the entire damn thing, you should probably actually read the goddamn webcomic instead of this.

Anyway, let’s begin:

Seer_of_Light.png

Title
This is the most obvious one. The character of Rose Lalonde in Homestuck class is Seer, with her specific title being the Seer of Light. This alone, however, is not enough, and the Light part is pretty contrary to The Seer’s aesthetic, especially considering its colors. However, on that note...

latest

Purple
Rose’s color in the webcomic is purple, as the picture above demonstrates. The Seer, similarly, wears purple, although obviously in a much more revealing fashion. Not only that, but Rose also has her dreamself on Derse, a moon that is very purple indeed.

Tentacles
Rose’s username for her chat client is literally TentacleTherapist, something she undoubtedly thought was pretty clever and ties into her eldritch aesthetics, which often includes the color purple. Not only that, but she also is interested in the Horrorterrors, which are basically unfathomable abominations floating about in the Furthest Ring. This is interesting since they are aligned with Void, the aspect opposite to Light, and connects back to the part about the title not really aligning with The Seer’s aesthetic.

Indubitably, these are far from the only connections that can be made, but I feel like I’ve stated my piece for now. Feel free to comment, but hppefully you can understand my perspective.

I feel like the easy way to get an answer to your question would've been to just ask SoAndSo before putting all this effort into your presentation (not that it isn't a well constructed thread). Personally I'm pretty sure it's just a coincidence, but I'll admit I'm now curious enough to want to know for sure now.

I've never actually read Homestuck, it might've been before (or after) my time. Not that your post wasn't a fun read. Figuring out where I get influence from would require an awful lot of exploration tbh.

Really? I guess I was wrong. Still, you can probably see where I was coming from.

However, Homestuck has been around for a fair while, having been started in 2009. The main canon story ended in 2016, although there’s stuff like the Epilogues which came out last year, along with Hiveswap (2017) and it’s sequel (TBA) and an episodic visual novel thing. However, all that stuff isn’t really relevant to the question.

Yeah, for me that would've been a little weird cuz I was neck-deep in education and music and all this other stuff. Webcomics were never really my thing.
I'd say for a bit of posterity (and knowing certain forum posters, this'll somehow end up in the wiki) that the Seer is inspired more by music than anything else and more specifically, album art.

I absorbed all the ideas in the images and the music itself and let my mind see what would happen. Boom, creepy, goofy, transcendental cthulu lady. A lot of the art is quite feminine but eerie and powerful.

That’s pretty cool.

Sorry for leaping to such a conclusion; I just felt both characters had some similarities to each other.

She may not be directly inspired, but it is enough to satisfy my dumb kink for grimdark nonsense, and that's all that really matters.
I mean, Rose was 13 when that happened and it was because of the tragic loss of her parents, but okay.

(Not actually judging you or saying you're a weirdo; just being cheeky about it.)

Considering I was like 14 when I fixated on it and it's all about Horrorterror possession anyway, it's fine.
I know; as I said, I was just joking around there.

Also, Rose is, at least after the mainline comic ends, now an adult along with the rest of of the characters, which does make it slightly better.

That said, there’s also Momlalonde and the Condesce, both of whom are not only adults, but are DEFINITELY into some kinky shit.
