This thread/post is meant to consider, discuss, and propose solutions to what I see as design issues in TiTS and the original CoC. I don't think these problems have had a chance to show up in CoC II much yet, so I thought I'd bring them up while they could still be easily addressed, in case they haven't been considered already.
In bullet points:
My proposal:
Alternatively the immobilization mechanic could be dropped all together, but I feel like the whole inflation thing has more appeal if it has some teeth to it.
(for the record, I'm willing to help out with the writing for this, but I also recognize that this is mostly game design / programming work)
In bullet points:
- Somewhere around F to K cup I lose any sense of what the supposed cup sizes actually correspond to.
- Beyond the point where cup/ball/belly/ect. size ought to be immobilizing, any further increase seems pretty meaningless
- (is anyone actually excited by the difference between a hyper m cup and a hyper n cup?)
- Likewise, If there's a cap on how much your reflexes can be reduced by oversized body parts, then any size increase beyond that cap is mechanically meaningless as well
- It seems inconsistent that in TiTS ball size can be immobilizing, but breast/belly size can't
- (particularly since the raskvell pregnancy explicitly mentions that eventuality)
- In TiTS I find the whole immobilization thing interesting when it can be easily solved (at least long enough to get back to the ship), or it results in a bad end. However, if I get stuck immobilized with no way out (or have to regularly take the emergency rescue option) I just find it annoying, especially if I'm not sure what's causing the sudden inability to reduce my ball size.
My proposal:
- Beyond a certain point, start reporting breast size (and maybe belly size too) in terms of how many feet/inches wide they are, or some other variant on an easily visualized measurement.
- Remove any cap from the encumbrance penalty and have it scale all the way up to immobilization.
- Include breast and belly size alongside ball size in the list of things that can cause immobilization.
- (maybe butt/other body parts too, depending on what people want)
- On a story side, when/if the player becomes immobilized have appropriate companions volunteer to help out, either though sex, carrying the player back to the Frost Hound, or setting up camp.
- Maybe also make explicit mention to the oversized parts in the combat log when the player gets hit, rather than just the little status affect icon.
Alternatively the immobilization mechanic could be dropped all together, but I feel like the whole inflation thing has more appeal if it has some teeth to it.
