I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or not, but no matter what I do, the game does not recognize that I turn it on. As soon as I leave the settings menu and go back into it, it's disabled. Any idea?

Do you have a save active (as in it's actually loaded before trying to turn the setting on) when this happens?

No, even starting a new game with no other save games present it still does not activate.

I think what they meant was you have to have a game loaded for it to work. At least, that's how it went for me (reverted to off with no loaded game, stayed on when activated with a loaded game.
