I remembered that my scion spellcaster build used to be able to win the game but now I can only provide a close match for her, I assume that there's no RNG involved

If it involves a stat, like Cunning or something, maybe you drink a bit of booze before bed or the game. Assuming the duration doesn't wear off, that might influence things. But I don't know what affects the game outcome to be sure.

Its cunning. Drink Honey Wine before you go to bed.

Not fully certain, but your chances increase if you have over 50% of the max cunning for your level, and over 75% is a high chance of winning. Something along those lines. Granted if you have low cunning, Kinu basically nicely tells you you're basically too stupid to play against, and won't play boardgames with you until you get your cunning high enough.
