How does Shield resistance interact?

Never been clear on this.
Most shields come with a weakness to electric damage.
If I then equip something that grants a bonus to my electric resistance, does that resistance help the shield take less damage, or is that resistance only for damage to my health?

Shield resistance is only for shields, other resistance does not apply to shields.

As far as I can tell, there are only two ways to modify shield resistances: the Mercenary exclusive Tough and Tough 2 perks, which increase kinetic resistance for both shields and health by 10% for Tough and 5% for Tough 2 (for a total of +15%), and the Tech Specialist exclusive Enhanced Dampeners perk, which halves the value of any weaknesses the shield has (e.g. a -50% weakness becomes -25%). Everything else only affects health resistances.
