How do I begin to handle the 2nd whisper fight

Whisper kicks my ass in 2-3 turns, using things like unbreakable or kaelirra's tears spam doesn't work because he kills so fast. Do I have to kill the correct whisper by chance on turn 1 or 2? killing all 3 seems impossible given the hp and damage output, for some reason they do between 50-100 damage per attack while they're all dual wielding so if they focus a character they're dead. I'm using Cait and Brienne, both level 6, I've tried a variety of builds on mc to no effect

Basically if you take one out he'll just spawn a new one. The start of the fight will say something along the lines of "Whisper A/B/C takes a deep breath, suddenly perfect copies of Whisper manifest." The one that does this is the real Whisper. Though sometimes he'll shuffle among the clones. If you still struggle with that, try to tease the real one into submission, since his resolve/resistance to tease is pretty low.

Kill him by INTENTION. You can pick out which one is which by his status effects apply to the other Whispers.

Also dumping AoE damage on them works pretty well. If you have an AoE tease, Whisper Prime takes more damage than the others too iirc.

You can make Atugia use her ultimate and put Kiyoko's karmic retribution, she is hit so badly that you kill almost all the clones in a short time, just constantly heal her, and hope that Wisper doesn't kill someone before Atugia has her turn. Give her Steadfast Tonic and put her into defense mode each turn.

Okay seriously has no one else figured out that you just have to look at the turn order and see which one takes multiple turns? That's the only one you need to kill.

Not to mention they all have the same combat bust, so trying to decipher the turn order isn't possible w/o looking at the box of text that is combat.

There are three Whispers. Whisper A, Whisper B, and Whisper C.
Hover over the icons on the initiative order at the top of the screen. Whichever Whisper appears 2 times is the real one. Focus that one and you win.

Or to be more accurate, focus on that one and instantly die in the first turn when he tosses out 300+ damage at each of your party members. Oh, you survived to turn 2? Hope you aren't playing a mage, because now you're Silenced. And what the hell, another 300+ damage for each of you again, why not.

I'm giving up on this dungeon until the level cap increases; not much point slamming my head against a brick wall.

You COULD turn the difficulty down...

Turn the difficulty down, change your strategy or suck less. The dungeon is entirely doable with the current level cap even if you're deliberately tying an arm behind your back for RP reasons.

Just AoE I use shatter and cleave and other companions that have AoE Brint, Arona, Kio-slutsune fox wife. Turn all fights into total warzones. #Kill everything. Also do the demon cultists leave the Glacial Rift after putting our paws or feet up their ass?

I'm not sure why you think "you suck at this game" is in any way news to me lol

My strategy was a combination of brint with the ice armour and the kami-no-michi set on kiyoko, this should work for most classes but I used a white mage. Due to kiyoko's speed in that set she almost always goes first, her at will decreases damage by 30% so this can help a lot against the main whisper Once the player goes, a summon with extra threat can be very useful for tanking a 300 plus hit early on instead of a party member. One of brint's skills can stun the enemy, so this can also be used instead of his aoes if you need to kill whisper fast.

I may have some other tips if you need it

Why not just play the game on story mode (easiest mode by far).. I do and the reason I do that is because I don't have much interest in the fighting, I'm here for the fucking.

I thought his fight to actually be the easiest on a black mage on dark mode. Open with equanimity, into Ryns party buff spell that she has when wearing her queens garb and then just oneshot him pretty much with Discchord. Don’t even have to pay attention to the fight then. shrug

Sorry for the double post but i was bored and your problems with the fight made me try out a few things and if Whispers fights mechanics upset you, then you can just build your character as an absolute glass canon to oneshot him before he can even make his first move. On story mode though.
Just slap on every gear with accuracy and crit, respec everything into strength, agility and cunning and then eat a bento box. Oh, and slot Celestial Smite.

This does not work on dark mode though and you would need to get slightly lucky to reach turn 2 so you have Equanimity and Ryns blessing activated.
For reference pic 1 is the dark mode damage on turn 2 and pic 2 is on story mode again during the same turn.
