Hey, do Steam purchases give ya the same benefit as backers?

Not unless you're also a backer, in which case you get a monthly code to receive the updates. The thing to remember is that the Steam version is a one-time payment of ten dollars while even the lowest backer tier is five dollars per month.

Automatic updates
Updates are smaller in file size (which also leads to faster updates)
A larger selection of cloud saves
Achievements and trading cards, for people who are into those
