Guldring: What counts as "spell damage"?

Okay, so I'm trying to find out how exactly Guldring works.

For example: Charge weapon is tagged as a spell. Does Guldring only increase the damage of the initial activation or the holy damage that gets added to normal attacks? Or both? Or neither?

Does the effect trigger multiple times for magic missile? (Since the damage is multiplied each time the ability is used?)

The build I'm currently trying to refine is a quasi-Paladin thing with Str/Agi/Will and since I don't heavily use Presence I wonder if I should bother with the ring?

I wouldn't bother. The extra leadership is great for leaderships builds. But the extra dmg is almost worthless. In my opinion atleast.

Fire dmg isn't that great of a elemental dmg type and the amount won't make a noticable difference. If you don't invest into Presence, you will end up with 7/2 fire dmg. I assume the game rounds up, so 4 fire dmg per cast. Even when min/maxing Presence you only get 10 fire dmg (20/2). That's not worth it.

Edit: I assume the fire dmg will be reduced by the enemies ward. Which means you would get even lower fire dmg.

I never tested Guldring with magic missile or charge weapon, but its something to think about. I will say that Guldring's effect is pretty good on high Presence builds for a bit of consistent extra damage. Its better than a Mage Ring in any case, so there isnt really a reason to not use since it has better stats anyway. Fireball has a base damage of 40. Increasing the damage by 10 is basically like adding 25 Spell Power worth of damage for that spell. On Spells with smaller Base damage than this, the effect of +10 damage is worth even more equivalent Spell Power. Presence is also pretty common as a stat for anyone who likes using summons, which compounds with the Leadership gain of the ring as well. And yes, Elemental damage is reduced by Ward and that Ward is countered by Spell Pen, which should be high on any character that cares about spell damage.

As for what may theoretically count as Spell damage? I'd test anything that lists it's damage type as magic(due diligence, but I doubt metal wand counts), I'd test Charge Weapon and Magic Missile as well. Could be that there is a seriously cool combo waiting here. I'd test it myself but I just restarted my character and I dont use save editor. But if I get an answer first, I'll post it.
