This assumes the wiki is correct on information from the flash version still being correct in the Java version; if this is not the case, then I'll freely concede this not being a bug.
As per the wiki, the fight with Dr. Calnor suggests he uses his crook to trip every fifth turn; from the wiki:
I'm currently dealing with a fight where he used it on turns 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 11 (and then I die), with me getting up each time I get tripped; if I don't get up, it goes "Hook" > "Elbow" > the rest of his attack set... which between the attempts at the fight and whether or not I try to get up, suggests a "=5" became "!=5" or vise versa when SyriQuest was ported.
As per the wiki, the fight with Dr. Calnor suggests he uses his crook to trip every fifth turn; from the wiki:
- Crook hook- Calnor uses his staff to slam Steele to the ground
- None of the above moves triggered
- Calnor is not disarmed
- Every fifth round
- If the attack lands (chance increased when Steele is Staggered)
- Tripping Steele
- Reducing Calnor's dodge chance
- And deals
- ~14 (57.75 if Staff is buffed) raw electric damage and ~26.25 raw kinetic damage (when in normal mode)
- ~16.1875 (59.9375 if Staff is buffed) raw electric damage and ~28.4375 raw kinetic damage
- Next move becomes Jackal's Elbow
