First thread, game told me to come here and explain what happened, I love the game so I obliged.
I was on New Texas in the Varmint fields when I realized that I'd just gotten the Explorer's Cloak, and I wanted to test it compared to the Ballistic Underlayer. The "equip" button wasn't on. I took off the Ballistic Underlayer to see if that was blocking the cloak. The "equip" button still wasn't working. I tried to put the previous accessory back on, now the button wasn't working for that either. I left the field, returned to my ship, took off all my clothes and weapons, and THEN tried to put the cloak on. Viola!
When I returned to the fields and got my ass kicked, I checked my inventory for a doctor's kit and saw that the Ballistic Underlayer was on instead (probably my own mistake). Figuring that maybe the issue was a one-time thing, I took it off and tried to put the cloak on. I might be dumb.
The equip button still wasn't working for either accessory. I took off all my clothes and weapons again because that fixed it last time, but absolutely nothing would equip anymore, not even my tent.
Buck-naked and completely screwed, I walked one tile and ran into the Freedom Bull (who I had encountered in the Tarkus Desert once before), so I said "fuck it, this day has been weird enough already" and hung out with her. Post-event, I saw I had the "home-cooked meal" buff and rested for 3 hours to get some health back.
I went back in my inventory to at least have my shield on in case I ran into any more Varmints. Bafflingly, the "equip" button didn't light up, but the "use" button did.
Driven by sheer morbid curiosity, I "used" the shield and crashed the game. So much for using protection, I guess.
