A while back, I downloaded the newest update at the time. I started up the game and found that I could load my character from a previous build of the game. I did so and I encountered a questionnaire. My codex (I think that's how it was explained) said that it couldn't find my background of how I grew up and asked me to select it again. I didn't think much of it at the time and reentered my origin for my character, but then I got to thinking. I don't recall any instance of origin being used for a check. I could be wrong, because I know that there are checks for class and what-not. I didn't save and reloaded the game, the same question popped up. This time, I chose a different option, wanting to see if my stats would change, but they didn't. I'm guessing the stat change only occurs at the beginning of the game? Because it asked me about my origin means that the game is keeping track of it beyond character creation. Maybe it's one of those flags that content creators can use, but no one has used it yet? Or has someone done so already? I don't think this is a bug, because it was specifically asked when I loaded my game in a new build.

The starting choice of lifestyle wasn't tracked before and a recent patch added in a tracker. However since it wasn't tracked before on established saves the screen in question was added in case, as you hypothesized, a scene calls for it. It doesn't do anything except log the lifestyle choice you put in regardless if it's the one you chose at creation.

Bess uses it in a couple of scenes (because JimT didn't know it wasn't being tracked at the time he wrote her). I can't think of other instance where it'd be referred to, because it wasn't tracked until recently.
