I know this may seem like a silly ask for the type of game this is gonna be, but seeing as how it has a D&D type feel, maybe some classes beyond the very basic ones would be fun? Fighter mage, Barbarian/Berzerker that runs around with little on, corrupting a Paladin?

Some sort of Dark Knight would be cool. Dark, infernal magic in one hand, and a large broadsword in the other. I'd be down.

As far as I know, there will be "multi-classing" (e.g. learning other class abilities from other classes) or being able to change your class as well. I'm pretty sure with the right abilities and class, you could probably make a berserker like dude, or a Paladin by combining Warrior + White Mage abilities, or a Dark Knight via Warrior + a mage class that specializes in lust magic or something. So, the world is your oyster in that retrospect.

Pretty much. You're allowed to mix and match abilities from classes. Story events can also give you abilities, such as finding a teacher to impart an ability to you.

Companions are allowed to have to more extreme, weirder classes and stat spreads because they're supposed to supplement the champion's skillset and serve as safety nets you can't fuck up; the champion him/herself is supposed to be the baseline. It's one of the reasons why we have the affinity level up system, because in TiTs you could go whole levels while keeping stats at 1. We want less variance to better balance encounters and make more challenging ones.

Insofar as the player character goes, there will only ever be the 5 base classes.

However, you're free to mix and match Talents from any class, and to take on Talents from items/story events/etc. on top of those. The only real "limit" is that you can only have 5 Talents equipped at a time (one At-Will, two Recharge, one 1/Encounter, and one 1/Day).

Your current class gives you passive Perks, and a free Talent when you level up. If you want cross-class Talents you just have to shell out some cash for them.

Will we have to level up all over again as the new class for said talents, like in Dragon's Dogma? Or do we have immediate access to everything according to our current character level?

You only have a Character level, not class levels.

You have all the Perks for whatever class you're currently in, based on your character level. When you change classes, the only thing you lose are your current Perks (to be replaced with the new class's perks so long as you're in that class).

You only get free Talents (your active abilities) for whatever class you're actually in when you level up. But you keep your Talents when you switch classes, so if you start as a Warrior and become a White Mage, you can keep beatsticking people until you learn some White Mage talents. You can learn Talents from any class at any time by paying some money to a trainer.

Will PC stat point distribution be automatic; determined by your current class ala FF Tactics, or will it be manual? Or will it be hard locked to whatever stats that class at that level should have?

You might have seen something called "Affinities" in character generation.

Basically your Background and your current Race and Class each give you 3 Attributes to choose from when you level up. You can only choose any given Attribute once per level, and only one Attribute each from Race/Class/BG. Each Attribute you choose during level up will advance by +3; all others advance by +1.

If you don't like the "free" level up choices you got, you can manually readjust your stats by paying cashmoney to Garth.

I sure did. RIP, you beautiful abortion.
