Is there some random chance that camp sites really do get destroyed at some point?

Only outside the starting areas. Camps in the Old Forest, Foothills, and northern Harvest Valley don't disintegrate. Camps in the Frostwood, Rift, and southern Harvest Valley do.

Yeah, that kind of confused me when I first started playing. When one disappeared in Harvest Valley, I said to myself...."Gee, I could have sworn a placed a camp here not too long ago."

I think it says in the description of the scene when you first set up the camp that basically it's only temporary in certain places.

The game tells you on multiple occasions that the camps you set up will be temporary - but I took it to mean that only tiles that specifically talk about being good camp sites are safe, and everywhere else the camps will eventually go down, perhaps at a different rate. Good to know the game is more lenient than that.

The real struggle with disintegrating camp sites isn't the price in EC, it's the cost in lost inventory space.

Although, life hack: unless it's been changed, the Frozen Tower in the Rift can also hold a campsite indefinitely.

Its not like I'm struggling to afford camp sites.
Yeah, when you get to higher level zones and don't splurge on transformatives all the time, you are rolling in it.

But when I just started and was still going through the Old Forest, money was tight between buying gear, paying trainers and wanting to be able to fund Gwyn ASAP. I even sold some unique gear that wasn't strictly necessary in order to get the money faster, something that I almost never do in RPGs.

*Gasp!*

You sold unique gear?? You're a stonger man than I. I'm a collector. I even find different storage sites for specific gear (armor in that chest, weapons in that closet, books under the bed, etc).

I am usually also really susceptible to the syren song of loot. Wanting to give Ryn her moment to shine was the only reason I didn't beat up Hethia for her bow, my character's pacificm be damned. That and finding out that Frost Arrows are pretty meh

But I just kept thinking about Gwyn's creampies and it gave me strength.

That they are (although someone forgot to give Brint the memo, lol), but the bonus Frost damage you get on Frost Arrows is calculated in a particularly stingy way, especially if we are talking about characters that don't buff their spellpower. Though I guess that regardless of damage it is neat on characters with high cunning because of the bonus effect.
