I did the Nihara quest and I'll probably stick with the shield orb, but what is bonus damage? When there's a crit is there a cap on the amount of damage taken before it counts as bonus damage or is it calculated by a percent of it?

Crits are bonus damage, the whole thing. Essentially, shields negate crits.
