Bug Report Thread Title Format

Normally, it's requested that folks include the game version in brackets within the bug report thread title. For instance, if I'm reporting a typo in Brint's dialogue, I might make my thread's title, "[0.3.21] Brint Typo".

If we're playing on Steam, however, isn't it obvious which version we're reporting on? Would "[Steam]" be a good enough title lead to give you guys the info you need to find the fix?

No, it's equally important on both versions. But your help is appreciated either way.

Okay, so where in Steam does it tell you what version you're playing? In-game, you have to fully exit the game and get to the Main Menu in order to find the version.

I was also under the impression that the Steam version directly matched the most recent version released (ie Backer).

1. Steam has no option to show the build number outside of the game.
2. You're right about exiting the game, I see why it's a problem, I'll see if I can add the build version in a place that doesn't require to exit the game.
3. It does use the most recent version, but that version changes overtime. That's why we need the version to be included on the title.

Yeah I get that, but if the Steam version is a constant and the most recent version, then why wouldn't [Steam] be sufficient to point the Devs/Coders in the right direction?

I've also started this thread.

Also, I just found out the Steam version is NOT the Backer version according to the Blog Announcement. So we're both wrong in that regard.

It might be at first, but as soon as a single update to the Steam version is released, it isn't. Non-major bugs and typos often aren't fixed until several patches after they're reported, meaning that once they get around to reading a bug report labelled [Steam] rather than [v0.3.whatever], the Steam version might have been updated since the bug was reported, which could get very frustrating if the bug has been fixed but they assume the report is from after it was fixed. Simply putting the version number makes it much easier to correctly identify which version the bug is in without having to cross-reference the time of posting with a timeline of when each patch was released.

Plus, it's possible to play a version on Steam older than the most recent one if the update files for the latter haven't been downloaded.

Patreon backers get access to the "test build" which tracks the backer version. The normal build tracks the public version.

Yeah, once I started thinking past the surface, I realized my initial thought process was wrong. Faulty logic thinking the tag "Steam" was a constant.

Then if there's a way to annotate which version a player is playing within the Steam menu, that would go a LOOOONG way to helping folks report bugs accurately. Like I said earlier, the only way to know which version you're playing in Steam is in the Main Menu which requires saving and quitting.
