If you have the Bladed Staff already, there is no reason not to replace the Quarterstaff with it; it's straight-up better. There is also a whole smorgasbord of weapons and offhand catalysts that make magic go brrrr, which become available at different points in the game. Right at the start you can buy several rods at Ivris' shop which trade off some thwacky-ness for doing magical-aspected damage when you attack with them and the Metal Rod comes with the Ranged tag. There are offhand Catalyst-tagged weapons you can also obtain for additional stat boosts without having to leave Hawkthorne as well. The Spiraled Staff requires a quest but can be obtained very early and provides a huge Spellpower and Spell Pen boost in return for requiring both hands.
