I'm looking to get some better gear for my character, what's the best armor and weapons to use?

It's more about builds that decide what's good or not, for example Smugglers gun perks + Royal Bow = this

Lusty. Mobs get obliterated anyhow though, but bosses will survive Shoot First(maybe).

For merc, I hear the survival axe is up there for non-energy melee. Maybe the rocket hammer too. Currently bows dominate ranged non-energy, though I favour the SecureMP for removed flurry penalty. Techs be chillin' in back with whatever they can get.

Currently, the best Energy weapon in the game is the Nova Rifle, though it's lacking in power compared to Tanis' Bow.  Even with the gun perk for Techs, the bow deals more damage compared to the Rifle.

Nova Pistol is probably better, actually. Damage between the two is the same, but NP has a better crit chance and Techs have ridiculous accuracy anyway.

But yeah, bows OP. Whoops. Better load down Fen's new merchant with great weapons to compensate.

Until this monster is a thing? Though it sounds like a character wouldn't be able to lug it and the power pack around. Perhaps a tech's drone could hold it while you blow things away.

Wasn't someone making a form of power armor  for  tits on the old forums? it had like 30 pages of  compliments and great jobs  keep it going posts.

Ah, I remember seeing something like that. Admittedly never read through the design doc though.

btw, why are you double and triple spacing between words?

Your power level is more or less determined by your class at present.  Mercs are and for the foreseeable future will continue to be the strongest, whether they're melee or ranged, because all of their class features just work.  Smugglers are the worst class in terms of features, but currently Tech Specialists are the least powerful overall because the best energy gun is a planet and a half out of date and all of their important class features just don't work without one.

There was a discussion about how to bring the other two classes up to parity on the old forum that has unfortunately been lost, it might be a discussion worth having again.

As far as ultimate gear:

  • Best melee weapon: Survival Axe
  • Best melee weapon (energy): Shock Blade, in fact this is the only energy melee weapon
  • Best ranged weapon: Tanis's Bow
  • Best ranged weapon (energy): Nova Pistol
  • Best armor: There's a few competitors here but I prefer the Nyrea chitin plate
  • Best shield: Reaper MKI, gotten as a drop from the Nyrean Princess

Surprised this topic didn't come up sooner truth be told, or maybe it did on Fenoxo.com 1.0 and I never noticed.

Short and long answer is, there is no such thing as best, only what most jives with how you play with your character. Best is a misnomer. For instance a pacifist play style, aka one that uses running and/or non weapon lust to defeat every foe the answer would be no weapon.

The weapons and armor listed by Couch are more or less top tier items for each category, but no one is the best over another, some items are actual worth less then the hassle you have to go threw to get them in the first place. I can't think of any specifically save maybe the Nova weapons, though only just, but a lot of CoC weapons like the Eldritch Staff and Jeweled Rapier are a major pain to get, a lot of things in TiTs and other games are like that.

I'd troll through Smutosaur.us for anything your curious about finding, including better weapons, sometimes a great side/upgrade is right in front of you and never know it. :)

As a general rule, if something has thirty pages of people encouraging the writer to finish, the writer is probably never going to finish.  Taking that long generally means the project is too large, and even if they do finish writing and editing it the chances of a huge project being coded are slim.  I'm frankly amazed that Bess actually got coded, and if it hadn't been written by someone with JimT's name recognition and history of excellent work behind it I doubt it ever would have been.  Let me be clear that this is not a knock against anyone, writing huge projects is just hard.  It's a lot harder than most people think it is when they start one.

Actually the best gear is anything I wrote, as it is morally objectively superior, you see.

Realtalk: the reason I coded it was to get it done. Fen had already said it was getting in, he'd already started on it a little bit like a year ago and then stopped (like a couple hundred lines were coded or something). Now I'm going to use it as an example of why smaller, more managable projects are better; not just for the writer, but for us implementing them, and for the people consuming the content. Bess was a twisted mess of stuff that was all wound around itself and it couldn't really have been broken apart any further than it already was without it being a pretty iffy experience- it NEEDED all of it in to make sense, rather than building on what was left from an earlier state.

12 damage is a bit too much of a nerf, but 24 was certainly ludicrously excessive.  I'd say 16-18 would be a more reasonable damage value for it.  It should be better than the Nova Pistol (14 damage), you get it a planet's worth of content later.  It just shouldn't be twice as good as every other weapon in the game.

EDIT: Though there is Concussive Shot to consider, but I've been thinking on that, so let me make a separate thread for it.

Well, remember, Tanis's bow is on Planet 1. It shouldn't be doing better damage than P4+ weapons.

(Yes, you'll be able to get another bow on Mhen'ga to unlock it; it's been buried in SyriQuest since forever)

That changes things, then.  As it stood, Tanis's Bow was effectively a P4 weapon, because you couldn't get the means of unlocking it until P4.  This is also why when I wrote the Foundry I held off on Allison developing a bow weapon until after the player had already gotten to Myrellion.  If you're going to make it so you can get it on P1 then yeah, it should be nerfed down to ZK Rifle levels.

Isn't there just fourbow weapons in all in the game so far?  Wait, I think it was three. Myr Bow, Tanis Bow, and the bow you get from the Queen of the Deep?

The only other two bows are the myr bow and the Queen of the Deep's bow, yes.  Both are pretty ass: yes, they do a lot of lust damage, but against lust-immune opponents you've now given up your primary means of doing physical damage because you couldn't be bothered to just use teases instead.  I don't put stock in lust weapons in general for this reason.  Any time they'd be useful to switch to, you'd be better off just being sexy in this game about sex.

True. By the time I landed on Myrellion, I had the majority of my teases maxed out. Those teases are pretty useful against those infected myr down in the caves.

For melee weapons, Queen Taivra's spear offers an excellent amount of damage. It has a attack value of 3, critical bonus of 7, and 15 penetrating damage.

Nova Rifle is also one of the strongest ranged weapons apart from the bows. I don't dig the bows. It has accuracy value of 3 and does 14 damage. (1 electric, 13 burning)

That is, if you want to dish out some damage to HP.

When it comes to the armour, I find the crystal goo armor to be very awesome. (Defeat the crystal goo girl in Taivra's palace while wearing grey goo armor for the upgrade.)

The grey goo armor starts with 6 defense, 5 sexiness and 25% resistance to kinetic and burning damage. Upgrading her will increase her defense to 8 and gain mirrored property. This puts the defense up to par with with the bulky and un-sexy trash armor. The only drawbacks are increased vulnerability to lust and electricity damage.

The polished platemail armor's defense goes to eleven literally but hampers your evasive ability. Nyrean chain armour has 1 point more sexiness than grey goo armor but less defense.

Your mileage may vary though.

The Goo Armor's weakness to Electricity is nullified if you wear the Lightning Duster.

Which means you can not wear any other accessory... BTW, can duster protect only health, or shield too?

I believe your shields have to go down before anything on your body (armor, duster, etc.) comes into effect -- at least, I know it's the case for armor, and should be for the duster.

Still waiting for a chance to have a giant energy sword, besides the shockblades.  ell, I'll write one myself if I have to.
