Not sure.. I do think all builds are viable?
I haven't played the game in ages and only yesterday started again. Chose a pure blackmage focussing only on the three main stats and I have been doing great so far. So... I think unless you really have a compulsion for min-maxing, you can really just use whatever. Companions seems OP as heck anyways and can easily handle every thing your current build can't.

I've pieced together a nice thief archer/tease hybrid from trial and error, as well as some help from some member here to back up tanks like Brint/Brienne, Arona, etc. Usually start off with Crackpowder and go into Crowd Control if the enemies are dead by the time that rolls around. For harder encounters, I save Dastardly Trick and the ultimate (I forget its name). That's usually all she wrote if they survived that long.
