Some of our companions don't really want a salary, such as Celise, and others like Azra are basically getting what they want by being on board (and she owes us since we're giving her a lift).
But others like Penny or Anno don't really seem to get anything out of being on board. So it seems to me they should demand a salary.
Maybe by having enough fun or certain types of fun with them you can reduce how much they want to be paid. They would probably get paid on a bi-weekly basis. Or maybe certain companions will demand specific items on a regular basis of some kind.
If they go too long without getting the amount of credits they want then they'll jump ship and you'll have to re-recruit them, either on their original planets or a central location like the bar in Tavros.
It would give me something to do with my credits besides endlessly saving them.
