[0.5.33] Unable to load save from file

I'm playing on the Steam version, and after the most recent update I am completely unable to load saves from file. I can still save to file, but I cannot load that very same save.
There is no error that pops up, it's just that nothing happens at all.
It also seems to not matter if the save is edited or unedited, as even my earliest unedited saves will not load.
I opened the browser version of the game (also 0.5.33) on Chrome Version 110.0.5481.178, and it was able to load the same saves perfectly fine without any issue, which is cool, but not the version I wanted to be using.

Hmm, not sure if this will help, but maybe try and attempt to load the file more than once.

So:
1. Load File -> Locate File -> Open
2. If nothing shows up, repeat step 1

Again, not sure if it will help, but that interaction seems to be something that has been mentioned before (years ago at this point).
Although this issue you're experiencing might not actually be related to that, considering it appears that the Save File format has changed slightly in these latest patches.

Hope it's able to be resolved soon, or that you've got it working.

Having the same issue, even tried exactly what OP tested with the same results. I can add though it didn't start that way, first couple of times it would work without issue and then it took increasingly more amount of attempts to load as Equivocate has suggested. Now it won't load no matter how many times I attempt to load my file save. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling with no change in behavior.
