I think you're getting a little too deep into it. Just have some kind of debuff pop after a day without eating.. Maybe longer. I mean.. Once you recruit Yammi it's almost stupid not to eat every once and awhile anyway.. I already make it a point to eat quite a lot now because the buff is nice.
