So let's pop off.
A detective in a society run by a cult worshipping a kid (believe reincarnation of a holy man) comes to confront the cult's temple members after a dead couple is found on the grounds. While investigating the incident the detective stumbles on evidence of other deaths in the basements after picking a lock to get into room the cult didn't want him in. Confronting the kid worshipped in the cult the detective is shocked to discover the kid is supernatural in fact and has real powers. That the rituals done are assisting his ascension so he might guide the people, in his cult and outside, to a promised paradise of prosperity and power. But it's the detective's job to bring the murder(s) to justice for the stake of the law, the peace of mind of the parents of the couple, and their kids, and the police department the detective works for.
Thus the question: Take the kid at his word and overlook the murderous ritual since the kid says it's for a greater good. Or tell the department, hope that the cult member with the dept won't turn on him. Or do some street justice and shoot the kid if he sics his cult on him. Or lie and gather more evidence to out the cult and expose them to the world.
This is how I do my thing.
I've got a lot of ideas I have bouncing around for the stories I write. But most times things sync with my common focal point of interest. 1) have a message
2) make it epic as fuck (martial arts, magic, high tech weapons, mix it all in, make it a huge world, have plenty of worlds to go to)
3) make sure to make character attractive in looks and in depth of character
4) find a balance, not too much action so story isn't cared for, and not too much drama that action is nonexistent
5) blur the lines but don't cross them (as in kids can die or be hurt, I write for adults and older teens, but I don't do rape or too many other super dark stuff, the point is hope and learning)
I like telekinesis. I like martial arts. I like space. I like magic. I like long quests the traverse a whole planet. Or several like Star Ocean games do. And I don't mean, pop over to a planet, visit one town, then get to a dungeon, the leave planet. No. No way. TRAVERSE THE WHOLE PLANET DAMN IT! (lol)
I would even go so far as to have the detective and his allies outside the department kill the kid. WAY before the end. And this, despite the outcry of the community and being labeled public enemy number one, they continue to try and expose the rest of the cult so no new zealots pop up.
My only problem is, I only wonder if people will see the messages I'm trying to put out there. Especially since games like Xenogears have tried to show the problems with government, religion, and arrogance can get you. But then again, it's not like it's a message that can be told a different way for new audiences.
