Really? I don't know what word of god says but I figured Tricky Vic would just have himself in permanent sterile mode until he wanted to have kids. I mean, he is a trillionaire with access to the universe's best medicine and technology. That would he could creampie as much as he wanted with no gold stealing harlots.
Was there any further clarifications about what made all those poor bastards unworthy of his legacy in old coot's eyes?
The most obvious explanation is that Victor basically forgot who most of his kids were, may have never met many of them, and in at least some cases like Shade's their mothers were unwilling to reveal their heritage. They're all valid contenders in that if someone like Shade touches a probe, now she's in the race if she wants to be, and I'm of the general impression that Victor wouldn't be terribly displeased if someone else turned out to have the drive to win.
But basically, Victor had many progeny, but Captain Steele is the only one he took an active hand in raising and thus the one he felt closest to. If you feel that's unfair, well, there's always the option to give the prize to someone else.

Get the probe from Myrellion, then try to leave the planet. You should get a scene with Shade as you're heading for your ship.
You could always commision someone to do the art, you know?
